"butler flamed away and threatened a dissolution of the union with regard to his state, as sure as god was in his firmament!" willam maclay's journal of the first congress, june 11, 1789___________________________________the federal government has been deeply unpopular among various segements of its polity since its beginings ( butler was a sneator from south carolina...the roots of secessionism run deep there )...personally i don't have an issue with government provided it is reasonably representative ( there are always compromises ) of the needs and iterests of the people it represents...the current federal government is no such thing...it aims for a utopia of sameness by impoverishing us all and leaving us subject to the owners of the debt ( read the elite and their sycophants in congres and the white house...whores to an individual ) in perpetuity and all our generations...debt is the clealry the vector for this impoverishment and it is the cause of a legislative war on anything that might mean a fair and equitable distribution of wealth...especially unions...there would seem to be a fairly broad section of the polity who are confused on this point and seriously believe the current adminsitration is the only hope they have for avoiding what they clearly see as a diminution of their standard of living...they see the issue but mistake the cause...yugoslavia seems an apt comparison to me...i have remarked elsewhere that it took me a couple of years to finally pinpoint who donny reminds me of politically and that is slobodan milosivic...an aspiring authoritarian who sought to use the discontents and fears of a subset of yougoslavia's population as a vehicle to power but ultimately led the country into a genocidal civil war and dissolution as a political entity...identity politics as the devil...and where are we these days? blugeoning one another with our perceived identities and completely oblivious to the real cause of the issues at hand...a concerted plan by the elite to economically impoverish and so subjugate the mass of the population...rather than grasp the relaity of our majority status as workers we have been sucessfully balkanized by government and its media mavens into our respective identity pidgeonholes...time to take the blinders off and realize that the proud boys may have a legitimate greivance about the quality of their lives but misapprehend the cause...time to educate them that people of color and the leftisits in portland have the same grievances...if we do not educate ourselves to the actual causes i an thinking we risk becoming a new yugoslavia as secessionism becomes and increasingly attractive idea to some completely immersed in a false identity...so we will re-read misha glenny's "the fall of yugoslavia" again and sniff the air for talk of secession and try to assess whom that might aggrandize...i may be full of it...it has happened before and interpreting the future is perilous..."the paths of error are various and infinite" and huan cognition aint what it's cracked up to be.
